John Denver was a superstar singer who touched millions by his popular-folk hits, many of which were inspired by Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was raised in Roswell New Mexico. He was enthralled by Colorado. He eventually moved to Aspen. Denver's national anthems to his adopted state has drawn a lot of people to Colorado. Take Me Home Country Roads is Denver's only Top 10 Hit as a solo artist after having worked with small folk groups. The song was written by Bill Danoff. Danoff composed the track with Johnny Cash in mind but when Denver saw an early rendition immediately, he realized the song could be the next hit single. The song was recorded just two weeks following that Washington D.C. performance.
